I paint to remember. I paint to celebrate.
I usually need a reason to paint, and that reason has usually been to capture a moment in the life of a beloved animal. A partner. A friend. I celebrate a life. I honor a friend. To the best of my talent. I have always felt my deepest griefs when one of my pets has passed. I have witnessed that same grief in friends and strangers alike. I started painting to help heal that grief. I have witnessed people go speechless, swelling up with emotions when I have presented my work to them. That is my reward.
Long after the paint is dry, or that friend is gone, my desire is that the image will stir the heart. “And time remembered, is grief forgotten” the English writer, Charles Algernon Swinburne, once wrote, and I think he is right.
I have a charitable foundation named “The Ninety Miles Charitable Fund.” Ninety Percent (90%) of all animal commissions will go directly to help Animal charities around the globe. Thank you.
